RV LIFE PART I - DAY 6/14 AUG

START: Schoodic Woods Campground, Acadia National Park, ME

END: Hanscomb Air Reserve Base Fam Camp, Massachusetts

Miles traveled:

Travel time: 0945-1800

I did another run this morning, just because it’s such a beautiful place and I know I won’t get to do this again.  This time I did a trail run on one of the hiking trails.  I didn’t figure I’d run into many hikers early in the morning, and I was right.  The trail was thick with roots and rocks and included several short but steep drops and inclines, so my pace was mighty slow - like 4 mph/15 minutes per mile.  But it was an awesome run.  Through the woods to the shore, heard several sea birds, didn’t see any small critters (or large ones).  It was very quiet, it was really nice.

We ate some breakfast before packing up to leave, and said goodbye to Ruby’s new friends before we pulled out.  Today’s drive was supposed to be about 5 hours, but we ran into traffic - a lot of it.  Boo!

We arrived at Hanscomb AFB Fam Camp around 1800.  This campground is the only first-come/first-served campground on our list, and it was pretty full.  Luckily there were a few spaces available, including a full hookup one, which we took.  The campsites are all kind of backwards.  The hooks ups are all too far forward within the site.  That, or they are on the wrong side.  It took us several minutes of walking the site to figure out how we wanted to situation our trailer.  We ended up parking it so that the truck had to pull in behind the trailer, and that worked for 2 nights.

We also didn’t let the cat go outside in her tent while there.  The camp office had several signs that there were ticks in the trees, grass, woods, etc.  We didn’t want to take the chance with our cat.  So she stayed put in the trailer for two days, which I don’t think bothered her too much.  It wasn’t moving, so it had that going for it.  The cat still does not like traveling.  I don’t think she minds being in different places, it’s just rolling down the road that she finds objectionable.  On the plus side, she really hasn’t puked much more than the first couple of days.

(The picture is actually from Schoodic Woods in Maine, we forgot to get a picture of our trailer at the Fam Camp at Hanscomb.  So, here's a picture of our kitty in her little pet tent.)
